Tidane, Galway
« on: Thursday 21 October 10 13:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find out more about a particular Kelly family. My starting point is from a newspaper extract which refers to:

Ann Honoria........daughter and co-heiress of the late Edmond Kelly of Tidane, in the county of Galway, Esq. and grand-niece to the late Judge Kelly.

Kelly being such a common name I thought I would start with Tidane. However, the only reference I can find is the newspaper extract.

Any ideas?

Brie

Hello and thanks for the reply.

The newspaper announcing Ann's marriage was dated 2 May, 1827.

Her first marriage though was in 1795. I have just looked at that marriage to get the dates and on there is says second daughter of Edmund Kelly Esqr of Fidane. This looks more hopeful, so I think I may have answered my own question, so thanks for the date prompt  :)

However, if anyone out there does know anything about this Kelly family I'd love to hear.
Brie,

There are no townlands in Galway named Fidane according to www.thecore.com/seanruad but there are 3 named Fiddaun.

Hello again,

I have been looking for Fidane and found the odd reference that has Fidane/Fiddaun as alternatives.

However, on the Irish landed estates site there is mention of a Fiddaun Lodge belonging to the Kelly family. The townland is Fiddaun, Civil Parish Kilkerrin and Barony Tiaquin. So I think this must be the place but it doesn't give any family details.

Thanks again
Brie

Hi Brie

Are you still researching Kelly connections to Kellys of Fiddaun?

Hello Kathy,

Thank you for your reply and yes I am. I must admit that I haven't looked at this side of the family for a long time. I found some interesting information on this site http://www.kellyclanireland.com/tracing-kelly-ancestors/general-interests/interesting-kellys but so far I haven't pursued it/checked it further.

I know Ann Honoria had a sister and if I remember correctly it was Jane - they are both mentioned in a case that was heard in the House of Lords - but that is as far as I have got. There is clearly more work to be done!

Do you have an interest in the Kelly family?

Brie
