Problem.

Hi
Can someone help me get my head round this.

On the 1861 census a George Rylands is living with Job Athey his wife and daughter Elizabeth aged 8yrs.... George aged 17 yrs is transcribed  as unmarried.....son-in-law.!!!!!!!!

On the 1871 census...... Liz 18 yrs is living with George Rylands ......transcribed as sister.
 
Is it possible that we have young Liz's mother was married before.... and George is her son...and he has been transcribed as in-law to Job Athey, instead of step son.... or am I missing something?

The term son-in-law was often used instead of stepson.
