Green of Braintree (Bocking)
« on: Sunday 24 October 10 23:14 BST (UK) »
I have been researching this family from Canada.  In December of 1865, James Green married Eliza Palphery in Bury St. Edmund, which yes I know is in Suffolk, not Essex.  James and his father Charles are listed as being tailors.  Through a process of elimination, which could be faulty since I was using censuses, I arrived at the conclusion that James was born in Bocking.  James' family seems to have moved back and forth between Essex, Suffolk, Middlesex and possibly James and Eliza were in Shropshire at some point.

I am just wondering if anyone else has been researching this family or anyone can help me come to some certainty that this is the correct family.

Thanks in advance,
Palphery, Brame - Suffolk
Green - Suffolk, Essex, Middlesex
Blakeman - Warwick

The marriage certificate just says "of age".  I do not know his exact date of birth.  It is approximately 1845 from the Canadian Census records.  I have been unable to find online a baptismal register and there are two James Greens born in Essex at approximately the same time.

I guess what I need is further information on this family?  I have tracked them on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census.  I know that James and Eliza came to Canada in May of 1870, but the rest of the family also disappears after 1861 in Suffolk.

I should have said that that is the James that I suspect to be my gggrandfather.  Where do I go from here?

His marriage cert gave his father as Charles - occ tailor

His birthyear is approx 1845 - birthplace possibly Bocking

The 1851 census has an entry for a James Green aged 5 b Bocking father Charles occ tailor as shown above - so that ticks all the boxes

There is only one other James Green b 1845  Essex on the 1851 - father was George

Finding a baptismal entry is not going to give you any info that is clearer than the above
