It does seem odd doesn't it, especially as the couple may have married as early as 1787.

This one wasn't far away http://freereg.rootsweb.com/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=5348248

Strange name ... it doesn't show as a surname in my marriage index ???
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

There are about 7 Barrow Upon Humber records for the name of Bell from 1775 to about 1812 where the fathers name is recorded as Joseph, but only the 1 where the mothers name is Ann, that of your Joseph on the 3rd October 1808.

I suppose it is possible that Joesph Senior was a widower when he married Ann and thy only had the 1 child, that of your Joseph.

Barrow records on IGI do seem to be fairly comprehensive so it looks as if quite alot of work has been put into extracting the information.

The problem we have is that the surname Bell is  fairly common  around the Barrow area, I have 3 in my tree all residing in the area in the late 17th to mid 19th century.

I even found a monumental Inscription for a Joseph Bell age 55 died on the 16th August 1815 in the Holy Trinity Church in Barrow on Humber, not your guy thankfully if yours was still alive in 1851.
