Wow !!!!!!!!! l have to get my head around it but l think you might have a point - when you've eliminated what cannot be then what you are left with must be what happened !! however l have to recheck all my other docs.
Thanks
J

Do you have something that Joseph DUNBAR signed, such as one of his children's marriage certs, original not from the GRO, which are copies. The Joseph part could be checked with the Joseph AMBRIDGE marriage original to see how they compare.

It might be just coincidence, but you never know.

Hi
I don't have any originals - l guess it's pointless being disappointed with your ancestors !! lol -  My father was very proud of his Scottish ancestry and it might all have been a made up ploy to get around the fact that Jane wouldn't divorce him.
The more l think about it and research all the documents available the more likely it seems.
Frank Dunbar (born after Connie and before my grandmother Dorothy)  has a registered birth in1897 So l guess that sometime between the 1881 census and the 1891 census Joseph left Jane to live with Maria Chapman who was about 15 years younger - mid life crisis not unique to the present age l guess !!
Thanks for your help - no idea how you put that all together so fast !!!
J

Hello

This Joseph Dunbar and Mariah Chapman (not Maria) are my great-great grandparents!
My grandmother in Irene nee Dunbar, the daughter of Reginald Dunbar.

I've been trying to find out Joseph and Mariah's marriage and births as I couldn't find them prior to 1891 on the census records. I have just done a search on google for both their names today and found your fascinating post... I would love to know if you have any further information since you posted this?

I have many records and certificates but came to a dead end at Joseph and Maria/Mariah. I am pretty sure they lied about their ages and the fact they were married given the lack of records and date inconsistencies.

You can email me directly at (*)

I look forward to hearing from you!

Ah.. Sorry if I confused you further, but Reginald was the second youngest son of Maria(h) and Joseph (born in 1902). The youngest (from memory as I am not sure I looked at the 1911 census) was Cyril (also the name of my grandfather) who was born in 1904 :-)

So his name, Reginald, won't seem familiar to you. I am on GenesReunited if you want to take a look at my tree!

We are obviously related, so pleased to be in contact with you! :)

Hello Markjrogers

I am just researching my family tree and have come to the same dead end. Just wondering if you managed to progress any further since your post?

Your grandmother Irene was my grandfathers sister. My Grandad was Reginald L Dunbar
