1906 lookup please/Noel Dehoolfson
« on: Wednesday 27 October 10 20:14 BST (UK) »
Having found a 1906 Canadian Census of Manitoba record for a Noel Dehoolfson on a certain website. Could someone please assist with the details.  I am really looking for a William Noel Dewoolfson who was sent to Canada in 1906 age 16. This record is very close and I would therefore like to clarify or eliminate.

Regards

Hello

Thats very positive becouse he was born England. Does it give anymore, occupation and other members in house?. Or does the census not give those details.

Thank you for your help

Hi David

It looks like he is on his own. He's named as Head of Family but it doesn't give streetnames, just "sections" and "townships".    There are other heads of family either side of him but because it isn't split up in to houses like the UK census there's no way of telling unfortunately.

No occupation on it at all.

Hi

That's a shame , but I'm sure its him.

There is a Manitoba probate record index for him under William Noel Dewoolfson, so he is probably on the 1911 & 1916 censuses but I can't find him yet.  I will keep looking.

Once again many thanks.

Hi David

From your query it doesn't sound like you have seen it but you can view the census record image yourself for free at

http://automatedgenealogy.com/

It is there with the 1911 Census. Just click on 'split view' at the top to see the image.

That said, the name is transcribed with an 'h' but judging from some of the other writing by this enumerator one might make a case for a messy 'w', I think. Very hard call. This Noel has his Postal Address as Medora which matches the destination on the passenger list. I suspect he is probably your man despite the difference in the age.

Hi

Thank you both for the info. I will look into the Sergeant Major Noel Woolfson as it does seem to be a possible but the only problem is that the probate index record for William Dewoolfson was on a listing for 1870-1930 so I'm assuming he died prior 1930. Unless it was a son? but unfortunately I don't no if he married or had a family as yet.

Duplicate posting http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=dut7i7ucmibobii8pal8mkakt3&topic=463129.0

You have reference numbers for the probate files. You can write to them and ask for a lookup...There may be a small charge but if it is a quick find they may not charge you...
