1871 census puzzle - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 27 October 10 21:54 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I received a bith cert this morning which confirms that Thomas was the son of Robert & Sarah Hodgson, born 9.8.1861 at Wingate.

On 21.8.1872 there is a burial at Monk Hesledon of Thomas Hodgson of Castle Eden Colliery, aged 11.

There is no sign of him on the 1871 census, but searching for Thomas (without a surname) born 1860-1862, and a keyword of wingate, shows one of the hits as Thomas H?? born 1862 Wingate living in the Distfict and sub-District of Easington.

I'd appreciate it if someone could check this out to see who he is living with.

Thanks,
Colin

Hi

That Thomas is with parents "James and Mary" with 5 siblings.  It looks like the surname is Holdsworth or Holdsmith, so not your Thomas. :)

Thanks very much Rutht22000 and Pels.  :) :)

It was good of you both to check,
Whatever that name is, it certainly isn't a variation of Hodgson. Oh well, my mystery continues  :'(

Regards,
Colin
