George Pass in a Lunatic Asylum?
« on: Thursday 28 October 10 13:30 BST (UK) »
George Pass was born in 1868 in Ecclesall Bierlow.

1871 - 2 Great Sheldon St, Ecclesall Bierlow.

Iin 1881, I found a George Pass aged 12 living in a Lunatic Asylum classed as a "Lunatic" and I was wondering if this is my George because he isn't with the rest of the family and I can't find a death for him either

Does anyone know if there is access to Asylum records on line?

I have no definate "sightings" of George after this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chrissy

I have just found on "Sheffield Indexers" the death of a George Pass  (Miner age 15) in 1883 (so the dates would fit in) who died at Wadsley Asylum, but how will I find out if he is "my" George

One from Sheffield Independent July 14 1883 in Deaths
Pass - July 9 at 2 New Thomas St, Bramhall Lane (Sheffield) George Pass son of S and C Pass, newsagent, after a long illness, aged 15 years.

So if you know his parents you could rule this one out.

And looking at the date of Gertrude's death to me it seems George was only in temporary care during the illness of Gertrude in 1881?

Hi.

S&DFHS are just compiling an index from the admission registers for Middlewood Asylum.

Entry number: 1483
Date of admission: 13 August 1880.
George PASS aged 12.
Abode: Ecclesall Bierlow Workhouse.
Cause of Insanity: Not known.
Died 9 July 1883 still in the asylum.

You will find more information in the admissions register which is deposited at Sheffield archives the reference is NHS 3/5/1/3

Although his abode is given as the EB Workhouse he may have been in the sanatorium at the workhouse.
