1861Census Hutton
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 20:19 BST (UK) »
Can anyone trace Robert Spence born 1845 to Alexander Spence and Margaret Turnbull in Leitholm Berwickshire. His father died 1856, in Hutton, aged 76. The family was in Hutton in 1851.
Many thanks, Maggie.

Thanks Monica, that looks like the right family. Do you have them in 1871 in Hutton still, though I expect the children will have moved on or married,  being 30 and 27, by then and Margaret may be somewhere alone? Maggie.

Many thanks to both of you!
Wonder why Robert changed his place of birth in the 1901 census?
It looks as though he was going up in the world and perhaps a Berwickshire village was too downmarket for him??
I have a possible death for his mother, Margaret, as 1878 in Hutton, so that would fit.
Now off to try and find the marriage for Robert and Mary!

Nice picture of Allanbank House on this page (there are others on Google Images) - no chance of being an indweller there I'm afraid, Monica, it was demolished in 1969 ::)
