What to do?
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 00:44 BST (UK) »
On this board and others the advice is always to ask within the family, the family always has the answers, etc
Well I am in possession of "a family secret" and am now worried that someone may come asking. Actually I'm not worried about the asking more about whether the info I have is accurate.
It's a paternity case. Birth cert doesn't name the father but apparently there was a court case.
I'd like to know if I can research the case...would there still be records. Talking 1950's here.

Hi,
If there was a court case it is highly likely it would have been reported in a local newspaper.

Thanks Kingskerswell.
But would family stuff like this be in the newspapers?
And if so where do I go looking for the Chronicle and Sentinel for that time period.
Would court records still exist do you think?

If you don't want to give away too many details on this thread you can send me a PM and I can suggest what newspapers to check. Although I know of several paternity cases in early-mid 1950s that di not appear in the newspaper (but the neighbours knew all the details).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
