Midland Data - Electoral Rolls
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 10:02 GMT (UK) »
I have found the Midland Historical data site and they list electoral rolls for Birmingham. I was thinking of buying some credits to view the electoral rolls but before I do so can anyone tell me what information I will find in an electoral roll? I have not seen them before.
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.

Hello littleem.

Been a while since i looked bit think it's just name and address, and possibly age?. Bham Central Library on the 6th floor has free access to that site or certain members on this forum may have access and can help you out:

If memory serves it only costs a fiver for 30 hits so hardly worth the journey into B'ham.
All men over 21 appear on the 1912 rolls & all men serving in the forces appear on the 1918 absentee voters list with their Regiment & no. listed. The 1920 rolls include women over 21.
what you will get is the address they were living at.
Personally I found it to be a goldmine & well worth a fiver.

Hi ,

They used to be a free access to Midlands Historical Data at most of Birmingham Libraries and  some surrounding areas for free.

This has stopped at my local Libraries as it was in error.
Apparently the transcriber has only just realised that some Libraries were accessing it for free  and has now put a block on it.

Of Course, Birmingham Library may well be paying for this service,  so  best to telephone before arriving.
They have Electoral Registers in book form too.

Females were able to vote in 1918, however they had to be aged 30 years or over.
In 1928 the age limit was lowered to 21 years of age.
