[Completed] Duncan Street, Liverpool?

Hi,

Might anyone be able to tell me where about in Liverpool Duncan Street was located please?

It is referred to as a place of residence in a record of a burial that took place at St. Anthony's RC church, Scotland Road in 1837.

There is a Duncan Street now in Toxteth, just by Liverpool Cathedral. Its a bit of a hike from Duncan Street up to Scotland Road though so there could be another Duncan Street that has since been demolished

Yes, I'd seen that one, and though the same.

However, I've just noticed that there was a Duncan Street that stood where Hotham Street now stands. Given that the family in question were living in the Old Haymarket area by the time of the 1841 census, this would seem more likely.

It was Duncan Street East that became Hotham Street. The name had changed by 1843. The 'proper' Duncan Street ran between St James Street and St Georges Street in the old part of Toxteth Park (ie north of Parliament Street). Of course it is possible that locally they dropped the 'East' bit.

Hi Ken,

I noticed that on taking a closer look at the 1833 map.

However, I'm fairly certain that it's as you say, that the 'East' has been dropped, given the proximity that they were living only a couple of years later. Plus, a second burial within the same family (also at St. Anthony's) had their address of 'Old Haymarket' shortened to just 'Hay Market', so similar to what you've suggested.
