Whittlesey PR's for King family
« on: Friday 05 November 10 00:43 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking help in trying to solve a mystery with two members of my King ancestry. I have checked the free index on the Cambridge Family History Society site but need some clarification which may be available in the extra information in the actual PR's.

In the baptism records are the following entries:

1819 Ann daughter of Jeremiah King & S Holmes of Thorney - baptism at St Andrews

1821 Ann daughter of Jacob King  & Sarah Holmes of Thorney - bapt. St Andrew's

1824 Eleanor daughter of Jacob King & Sarah Holmes - bapt St Andrew's

1826 Sarah daughter of Jacob King & Sarah Holmes 0f Horsegate - bapt St Andrew's

On 28 Nov 1825 Jacob King of Thorney married Sarah Holmes of Whittlesey - I am hoping that the PR's might show that the entry for the 1819 baptism entry is a miss print and the father should read Jacob and that there might be some reference as to why Jacob and Sarah didn't marry until so long after their children were born.
Jacob died in 1826 and was aged in his 60's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I live in Australia, which makes a visit to the records office a bit of a challenge!

Cheers
Janet  :)

Hi Janet B
I have checked out the local Whittlesey Church Records for you and this is how they are written in the Records.
1819 Sep 7th HOLMES Ann King d of Jeremiah King Thorney Farmer & Sarah Holmes Spinster of Whittlesea.
1821 24 Aug HOLMES Ann           d            "       "          "         "                "          "           "                  "
1824 Feb 21st Eleanor d of Jacob King Whittlesea Yeoman & Sarah Holmes Whittlesea Spinster.
1826 April 15th KING Sarah d of Jacob & Sarah of Horsegate Whittlesea Yeoman.

1825 28 Nov KING Jacob (x) wdr & Sarah HOLMES (x) sp botp. wits. William Fitzjohn & Mary Coulson.

I do hope this helps you. Whittlesea Cambridgeshire was spelt like this. Only spelt like that now on the local train station. Town now spelt Whittlesey/ Also note Jeremiah changed his name to Jacob.

I have found a Jane King buried on 18th Jan 1825 of Old Whittlesea,Whittlesea/ age 37. but have not checked Thorney records.

regards.
