McMahon family and Castle Loghan
« on: Sunday 10 April 05 16:19 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather was Patrick McMahon born in Dundalk.  He married a lady called Julia Bell in 1869 approx.  Shortly after they married they moved to Liverpool and I have managed to find them on the 1871 census.  The record shows that Julia was from Castle Loghan in Ireland.  I have searched for Castle Loghan but cannot find it.  Has anyone ever heard of this place.

Hi Corky,

I played around with IreAtlas Townland Search and like yourself could not not find Castle Logan. http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/ - I then took desperate measures and searched for one letter " n " at the end. I was faced with a screen full of townlands so scrolled to the end of a long list to see how many there were (12641)
I managed to spot Castlejordan in Co. Meath. I wonder if this location may have been Julia's home townland ?

Hi

Thanks for the reply.  I think Castlejordan could be a possibility.  Trying to work out the writing on the census has been really difficult.  Will check it out, thanks.
