REID/Duncan family
« on: Saturday 06 November 10 11:53 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any info on the families of Best Reid and Jane Duncan (married in 1856) who lived in Comber, County Down.  At some point I believe they lived on Mill St. (1863-1864)

I found a census that named a daughter, Margaret Jane (born April, 19, 1868).  They had another daughter not mentioned who was born in 1862 (my great grandmother, Elizabeth Reid Cardow) The family emmigrated to Rutherglen, Scotland in the early 1870's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,
Best Reid married Jane Duncan in Newtownards Registrars Office on 2 Dec 1856. Fathers were Isaac Reid and Edward Duncan. A Parent Search on the IGI using Best and Jane gives the following children:-

28 May 1864 Agnes born Comber Co. Down
7 Jul 1866 William born Comber Co. Down
7 Jan 1871 Robert Best born Rutherglen, Lanark (Likely died young)
12 Jan 1872 Robert Best born Rutherglen, Lanark.
Margaret Jane was also born in Comber.

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to me.  I'm having a difficult time trying to find my great grandmother.  Her name was Elizabeth Reid and her parents named Jane Duncan and Best Reid, were from Comber.  I have searched and only one marriage of a Jane Duncan and Best Reid comes up.  Do you have any ideas as to where else I could look?

Hi,
Civil registration of births in Ireland only started in 1864 so you will have to find the church where the child may have been baptised . You know that the registration district for the others was Comber but that still leaves a lot of churches!!
