Hi I am trying to trace my ggg grandfather Thomas Strange born abt 1821 in Stokenchurch, Oxfordshire.  He married Sophia Lewis 16-8-1840 at Sutton Courtenay, Berks.  In 1841 census he was a blacksmith working away from home.  Had children Samuel, Alfred Edward, Caleb (my gg grandfather) Ellen, Moses, James Coleman and Lucy.  Actually any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Jennie

This is the nearest Thomas Strange baptism I can find but I think it must be him:

Sep 16 1816 Thomas Strange son of Samuel, a blacksmith & Sophia.

Thank you for the quick reply.  It could very well be, as Samuel is the name of his first son and he was also a blacksmith.  He also lived next door to a Sophia Strange  in 1840 who was 20 years older, might be his mother?  There are similar family names in the other family.  Thanks again

Thanks for the replies, I have a question.  This Thomas was christened in 1816 to Samuel Strange and Sophia Clewly.  Why was his birthdate at leat 5 years later in every census.  Is this a common thing?  Or maybe I do have the wrong Thomas?  Any thoughts?  I have not found another Thomas on line that I can link to.
