**COMPLETED - Thank you** 1874 - 1878 - Finding Ancestors in Leeds
« on: Tuesday 09 November 10 23:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone please tell me if there is any way of finding ancestors who were in the Leeds area from 1874 - 1878? My GG Grandparents were born and married in Manchester, but they had their first 2 children in Leeds and as there was no [known] family connection in Leeds, I woulld like to find out what they were doing up there... they returned to Manchester to have the remaining 7 children and spent the rest of their lives in Manchester.

Many many thanks

Leeeeeese

Look at the polling registers held in Leeds library - it helps if you have an address. Otherwise 1871 and 1881 census's, FreeBMD (use Vol 9b) and Yorkshire BMD's.

Hi dave the tyke,

Thank you for responding... Are these registars available online or must one visit the Library?

Many thanks

They are in the library and are in book format. I think they are only searchable via street indexes but a name index is available in other libraries that I have visited so there could be one in Leeds.
