"Bargoed" 1901 look up please.

Hi all.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me please. I don't have too much to go on, but am keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm looking for information on a great aunt.

Elsie JAMES, born 9th June 1895 in Bargoed, South Wales.
In 1920, I know that she went to the USA. She went to stay with her uncle "Robert Elliot" in Tailorville, Illinois, USA. In the same year she married my great uncle.

On the passenger list of the ship "Saxonia", which she went to the USA on, it states her occupation was that of a waitress. It goes on to say, her nearest "friend or relative" is Robert Elliot, 3 Long Road, Tredegar.

Or any help would be appreciated.

There is nobody with that name/birthyear b Bargoed but there are a couple of entries on the Welsh 1901 with 1894 and 1897 birthyears

Did she have any middle name as most of the Elsie James entries have a middle initial

Do you have any clue as to her parents names

Sorry, but thats all I have about her. This info was on the passenger list.

I cannot even find (thats if she did) a marriage in the USA for her, yet I do have her addresse's right up to the time she died. So again, sorry I dont have her parents names.

I did see that one, but did not know how far this is from Bargoed? So it is a possibility???

I've found an Elsie James aged 5 indexed as Janes but she was b Cardiff

Bargoed is in Caerphilly and it's over 40 miles between there and Swansea

Bargoed is about 8 miles from Caerphilly,Carole .I used to live in Bargoed - the locals used to say i was theonly person who lived there who loved it-happy days!!

I think this is more likely to be her -although she has the middle initial "M" and is born a year later??

llanfihangel Rhydithan Radnorshire(Radnorshire does not exist present day - It now comes within Powys - and it is approx 80 miles from Bargoed (Mid Glamorganshire)

but

not long after the 1901 census the James family moved to Bargoed Glamorgan and the younger children were born in Bargoed - they lived on llancayo Street -which is still there today

The distance shown was between Swansea and Bargoed as the only birth on freebmd that fits a June 1895 birth was in the Swansea RD so can't be hers. 

She was b 9.6.1895 but there is no other Elsie James birth in Glamorgan apart from that Swansea one

There are not that many straight Elsie James births - and certainly none in Glamorgan - but there are several with middle names hence my query

That 1901 entry you found is a possibility but F H needs to confirm the middle christian name and where the info came from that she was actually born in Bargoed rather than just lived there

I quite agree Carole - but thought as her younger siblings were b Bargoed she may well have classed that as her p.o.b.
