James WATERS c1811
« on: Thursday 11 November 10 10:37 GMT (UK) »
I have absolutely no idea where this chap came from, as Census returns just show SCOTLAND!!!!!

He married a Jane Ramsay Charlton 29th July 1849 Holy Trinity, South Shields, England, shown only as TRADESMAN       his father was also James and he too shown as TRADESMAN.

However Census returns show he was a COOPER, living in Heworth, Gateshead, Co Durham.       Any help appreciated.                Thanks

ScotlandsPeople shows about SIX  James Waters, whose father was also James, born between 1810 and 1821. Mostly from Caithness.   Any chance we can narrow it down with a more precise birth year, birth place or mother's name ?
NEILSON - Erskine/Bishopton, Renfrewshire and Glasgow
BROWN - Hamilton, Lanarkshire
CAIRNS - Hamilton, Lanarkshire
FINDLAY - Kirriemuir area, Forfarshire/Angus
PORTER - Tobermore, Derry, Ireland

Unfortunately I don't have anything other than what  was on the 1851/1861/1871 Census     plus the details on his Marriage certificate that I mentioned earlier , so I realise its a tough one, I just thought somebody out there MAY have this same James Waters in their F/Tree!!!!!   Thanks for looking anyway, its much appreciated.

OK - well just in case it fits with something else, the mothers' names are as follows (in each case the child is James Waters, and the father is James Waters and the date is shown).  Source is Scottish OPRs)..

11/05/1810   ELIZABETH GEORGE     Wick
22/08/1813   MARGARET DUNN    Fintry
03/04/1815   ELIZABETH GUNN   Thurso
16/07/1821   JANET JACKSON   Wick
14/08/1821   BARBARA WHIER   Halkirk

Good Hunting.

See that you've also posted on DURHAM board and there's one reply there-

Scotland's People shows a James Waters, parents James Waters and Elizabeth George, Wick, Caithness. I am assuming 5 Nov 1810 (could be 11 May) written 11/05/1810.  You will have to pay to view to see what else it says.

Cannot help with James specifically - but have you also tried Watters.  The names Waters and Watters figure quite strongly in the Irvine area (there is a remote connection to some of my research which is why I have these details).

John Waters and Elizabeth McGregor had five daughters between 1813 and 1826 some registered as Waters and some as Watters.   This info is from IGI and unfortunately seems to be one of those batches giving only female births but the date span would fit your James. (Also James's eldest daughter Elizabeth would fit the name pattern).
