If you provide full information from whatever census you have the family on, I'm sure you will get some assistance to be able to work backwards and hope to discover more information.

The 1881 census is free to search at www.familysearch.org and this might help you.
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from The National Archives
Lunt (Wavertree/West Derby), Forshaw (West Derby), Richardson (Knowsley), Kent (Cheshire),
Cain (Hertfordshire, London), Larkins (Bedfordshire, London), Nunn (London), Lenton, Hillyard (Bedfordshire),
Parle, Lambert, Furlong, Wafer (Wexford)
Special separate interest in Longford (Blackrock, Dublin)

Hi MaryA

Have seen your reply to Basher's post.
It was my reply to his/her first post on Staffordshire lookup requests, that gave the info about Lincoln.
I think a little help may be needed to get the best results.
1901 Census RG13 / 2631 / 25 / 42 for Bank Street Cheadle, Staffordshire gives John Brattley, Head, age 35, born in Lincoln, Lincolshire 1866. He was a coal pit sinker so may well have moved to this area which at the time was heavily dependent on coal. and most of the areas population worked either in the potteries or mining.
His wife Ann was born 1869 in Burton -on-Trent, Staffordshire.
I did suggest that Basher gave us a little more information and your link should give a start if Basher has not got access to any of the paid sites. and is new to research.

Hi again, I will leave 1881 to you Basher, as a link has been given to help you, but to lend a hand I think he is in the Staffordshire area as a lodger!

As John consistently states born Lincoln, this is the only one in Lincolnshire born Lincoln:-

Charles 17 occ Baker b Lincoln
Alfred 11 b Wragby
George 9 b Langton
Susannah 6 b Fiskerton
John 4 b Lincoln
Ruth 3 b Lincoln
Residing at Bellevue Cottages, St Martin lincoln

Hi
Yes keyboard86 I did see that info on the 1891 census, just a wrong 'keyboard'
error.......they were married in 1889 not 1899!....
Also I did see that Ann Fox's family were living in Cheadle in 1891 (John P Fox and
Louisa) if you want that side as well Basher.
I was curious Keyboard86 as to Ann Brattley's occupation... a Marine Stores paper sorter... I don't know if you know Cheadle, Staffs but it is only a small Market town. Any ideas?

Hi Bill, I had the same thoughts about what sort of paper sorting she did (Excuse the pun )! and also what did they need a Marine store for in Staffordshire?

Amendment done to marriage date, put it down to the pressure of work!

I have had a look at original again, it is definetly shown against "Marine Store" SHOP, and where John is shown as living in Bank Street her work is in between in "Keys's Row", then Bank Street continues?
