Several folk described as veteran or rootschat founders have the same family interests as me.
So I try to find their recent posts and find they have never posted!
How this can be beats me, but if I PM them it might annoy them (as the entry "0 posts" might be for privacy reasons?

Hi Esdel,

Every post on RC is counted EXCEPT on the off-topic boards. If someone has zero posts but higher-than-expected honours the chances are they are avid O/T posters.

You will almost certainly not upset them by making contact.

Members usually need 3 posts to use PM (personal message) system so even if they are able to get your PM they will probably not be able to send you a PM back.

Hi aghadowey, does that also apply to OT and TOT posts? I didn't mention it as I wasn't sure.

Hi again Esdel,

I believe OT and TOT posts are deleted after a period. That would explain why they don't have recent posts entries.

If you do make contact, it ma be worth giving our home e-mail up-front as they may not be able to PM you back.

Hi Edsel,

You can try sending them a PM with your e-mail address.
We are not quite sure whether the first PM can be read or not but it's worth a try.

Otherwise, if you have posted (on) topics with these names, you will have to hope that they will be interested enough to look at RootsChat now and then and see your posts with these names and get interested enough to reply to you.

Other possibilities:
Look at their profile:
  • if they have been online recently then click on "Show the last posts of this RootsChatter."

If they have only been posting on the TOT, then you will still see posts there, even if their post count is zero. Reply on one of those topics, pointing to your research topic and ask them to reply to it.
  • If there are no posts at all, then try going into the chatroom (link at top of page) and asking if anybody knows this person. A lot of our members are regular chatroom users, doing lots of FH research there, but never post in the forum.  So they are regularly online but "no posts" !
  • if they haven't been online for a while, then you are out of luck :(

Good luck,
Bob
