Is anybody experienced visiting the GRO offices in Dublin?
« on: Saturday 13 November 10 16:00 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I would like to know what the search experience is like in Dublin.

The online indexes are much too frustrating for me, as index entries  are not broken down by local district office, only by the major district (corresponding to the union).

I am very experienced viewing BMD films at the local Mormon FHC.  By viewing the BMD data films and looking at raw data directly (not the index films) I have found data much faster than if I had poked through the indexes.  I browse the neighborhood, so to speak, and end up catching a lot of people that way.

What I want to know is, do you have a similar opportunity to examine the data films directly when you visit the GRO in Dublin?

no films in the GRO research room

To research you first request index books to find possible matches - the familysearch BMD Index website is based on these. You can take 5 years out at a time - for one event type (e.g. births)

When you find possible matches you can then order the required certs using the  details from the index book - name, reg. district, year/quarter, volume & page number

You can collect a max of 5 certs per person per day - any extra are posted out to you later.
