Electoral Roll Lookup - Barnes/Putney
« on: Sunday 14 November 10 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone help me with an electoral roll lookup please? I'm looking for the inhabitants of 'Brightlands', Gipsy Lane, Putney/Barnes (it's noted as both - Putney on the 1911 census, and Barnes on a birth certificate from 1916) in February or anytime in 1916.

Many thanks in advance for all your help!

It seems as if further work took place regarding the will of George Rowland List as there are two entries for him in the National Probate Calendar; an excerpt from the second reads:

Administration (with will), Llandudno, 17 March 1941 to Lloyds Bank Limited. Former grant PR 23 November 1921.

Below may be a reference from the probate calendar to his wife Edith Mary List;
List, Edith Mary of St Andrews Hospital Northampton, widow, died 27 July 1940 Probate Llandudno 2 October [1940] to Lloyds Bank Limited.

Thanks for the reply,

George List was there from 1911 till 1921, however, strangely (and hence my post) my great grandmother gave birth to an illegitimate child there in 1916. I have no idea why she would be there (she was a housemaid/cook but I don't believe  at that house.) I'd loved to be proved wrong though, or have some reason to tie her to that house - which is a private property, not a place where women usually gave birth! I'm hoping that electoral rolls will give me some insight...

Thanks again,

Electoral rolls weren't taken during the war years of 1914-1918.

You don't get a lot of info in those early ones of the 1920's as they only included those eligible to vote- ie houseowners and males at that!
Women did not get the vote until the late 1920's and then only those over 30.

You could be lucky though- but don't set too much store by trying to find them.
