Marriage and Dr Douglass
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Looking for parents and marriage of John Douglass born about 1790/1. He married Rebecca Douthwaitte born Whitby 1791. He is listed as a surgeon on all his childrens births( though I believe he was more of a Quack who sold his potions around Yorkshire and Durham) . Eight children, born Hull 1811, York 1813,Hull 1815,Whitby 1820 and 1822,Sheffield 1818,Sunderland 1824 and Darlington 1825.( He must have invented Viagra too). He lived in Darlington from 1825 till his death in 1838.Rebecca died in 1835. He advertised his potions in the Newcastle Courant in 1830.
Any help or advice in finding out his parents and where he was from would be appreciated. He may have advertised his medicines in other newspapers in Yorkshire prior to living in Darlington. Also would love to find more on this too.
Many thanks , Paul.

Many thanks for your response. I too thought that he would be the most likely one but someone on Ancestry said there was a memorial in St Marys , Whitby, to John Douglas  beloved son of William and Francis, lost at sea 1815.
Thanks, Paul.
