« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 14:14 GMT (UK) »
I am following the trail of my GG uncle Henry Steen, from Linlithgow to Caithness and finally to Cowes where he died. His wife was Alice Maria Glaspell from the I.O.W.In 1901 I have them living in Heathfield Cottages Cowes.Does anyone know where these were or if they still exist.Any help gratefully recieved.

Hi George,
In 1891 Heathfield cottages are indexed as Yarborough Road,  East Cowes and in 1901  Clarance Road/Gordon Terrace.
If you google Heathfield cottages off Yarborough Road there is a result for a Flickr account which seems to have a photo.
If you look on Streetview at around 44 Yarborough Road the distinctive blue house is there.
It is between Yarborough Road and Clarance Road.

Cathy and Ann,thank you very much.I have to pop out for an hour but will check those when I return.

Cathy, look forward to seeing that,I only found out a few days ago I even have connections to I.O.W.

Ann,she ended up in the workhouse, that is so sad.Her husband died 20 years earlier also on the I.O.W. where is he I wonder. They had several children,I can't believe she was left to die there.

George.

Hi Ann,I presume the 22 St.Andrews St. was where she was living, hmmmmm so why did she die in the workhouse infirmary.Have you any idea where this workhouse was. Also are there any other burial grounds as it looks like her husband was buried elsewhere in Cowes.

Cathy thank you,I have seen the photo.Outwardly I doubt they have changed much since they lived there. If anyone happens to be passing them and feels the urge to take a photo, could you please post it here.

Good evening Ann,thank you so so much for that information, absolutely fantastic.Henry was the only brother of my great grandfather. There was not only me brought up in the south then(Cornwall),as some of his children were born on the I.O.W. His wife's maiden name was Glasspell and she was from the island. As far as I can make out they must have met in Scotland where she was nurse to a family. They married on the I.O.W. and settled there. You have also given me another lead in that he was an army pensioner so must have a military record somewhere,ah more searching. The I.O.W. will now have to be put on next years places to go list.Thank you again.

George.
