LOOK-UP Birth John Hughes b 1878 at Penmorfa
« on: Saturday 20 November 10 03:48 GMT (UK) »
Please would someone look up the birth record for the following - I cannot find it on Ancestry because the sub districts are not accurate enough - I am finding the sub districts and registration districts and counties all a little confusing!

this is what I know

John Hughes b 1878 at Penmorfa in Caernarvonshire - he is on 1881 Census at Penmorfa showing Father to be Daniel Hughes b1843 at Llandulas and mother Elizabeth Williams b 1835 at Bangor. John married a Margaret (maiden name unknown - would be great to get this info) b 1874 at Llanfair P.G., Anglesey.

Thank you in advance, much appreciate your help

Lou

Hello Lou

The 1881 census indicates that the Civil Parish of Penmorfa was located in the Sub-Registration District of Tremadoc, which in turn was in the regional District of Ffestiniog.   According to the NorthWales BMD website there were no births of John Hughes registered in Ffestiniog in 1978 but there were two possibilities in 1879,  a David John HUGHES and a John Hugh HUGHES.   The records are currently held at the Gwynedd-Merionydd Register Office at Dolgellau.   Rather than using the GRO the safest way to obtain the birth certificate would be to write to them (using the forms on the NorthWales BMD site) with the parents names as a checking factor.   If they are unable to locate the certificate they may assist you to find the correct one.

Anglesey marriages are not yet up on the NorthWales BMD site but I  understand they are coming!
