Dinah Berry buried Wickham Skeith
« on: Sunday 21 November 10 16:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello all:
  I am wondering if anyone who ties in to Dinah (Berry) Strange, buried in the St Andrews cemetery Wickham Skeith would have any more details on her family.
   I am still stuck with my Richard Strange/Strainge ( also buried there) who claimed in 1861 he was born Redlingfield Suffolk.  A search of the Redlingfield records turned up a Dinah/ Dinea Strainge born to Dinah and John Strange.  This would have been Dinah Berry.  Their other children were born/ chr Wilby Suffolk.  I think I have exhausted Wilby and surrounding parishes as well.
  I have contacted an individual looking after the cemetery to determine whether my Richard was buried near Dinah, but that didn't turn up anything either.
  Anyone with connections or other ideas greatly appreciated.

hello CL

Had a quick look at what i have for you.

I have found the burial of Dinah Strainge (late Berry) 31 Oct 1806 ag 63 Wickham Skeith.  Abode Wilby.

There is a Dinah Berry (late Jenks) widow buried Wickham Skeith 12 Jun 1803 ag 79 & a John Berry buried at Redlingfield 6 Feb 1790 so presumably these are her parents.

Couldn't see much else but there is Jenks activity in Mendlesham just south of Wickham Skeith.

As for Richard Strange - there are 2 on the 1851C Richard c1774 living in Wickham Skeith stating he was born Wickham Skeith (1861C has him living in the Eye Union WH - stating Redlingfield) & Richard Strange c 1792 Inn Keeper & Matilda c1793 living at the Swan Inn, Stuston.  Both give Wickham Skeith as their place of birth.

Richard & Matilda were married in Wickham Skeith on 15 Jun 1819 - Richard giving his parish as Westhorpe.

I hope there may be something here that helps.
K2

Hello K2;
  Thank you for the information.  My Richard Strange is the one in 1851 in W.S. and in the Eye WH in 1861.  Sorry I had failed to mention his dob. I have been trying to verify if Dinah Berry Strange buried in WS is his mother as they were both buried there.  Possibly not as it seems her mother being buried there may be the connection.
  I appreciate the help.

Don't know if you have the following marriage from Boyds index.

I trace my maternal Berry lineage back to the marriage of Robert Berry and Elizabeth Francis in WS in 1769.

What I find very surprising here is that someone living in Wilby would be buried in WS. Although 15km apart, there were quite a few parishes in between.

CL - do you have any idea what the connection to WS may have been?

Justin

Justin;
   I wasn't aware of the actual distance from Wilby, but it is interesting to consider. Thank you for that.  Dinah's daughter Elizabeth, a spinster from Wilby was buried there after her mother. Her  son John and his family were also affiliated with this parish, so that may be part of it.

Willing to have a look around  the cemetery if your think there may be stones.

The weather will have to improve mind you, so it could be April!

Sorry it took a while for a reply.  I had to check some research I had done.  I had asked a kind lady who looks after the churchyard about the location of the various Strange family stones.  I was hoping to prove or disprove a relationship. It seems my Richard and Mary would not have had a stone.  However, Dinah Strange and her daughter Elizabeth Strange may have had stones.  If it isn't too much trouble I would appreciate a check for these people.  Don't make a special trip in any weather.
Thank you kindly for the offer,
CL ;)
