I have updated this post with new information......................
I am looking for information on my Great Great Grandfather Henry Bevan Slator WEBB (may have been known as Harry) and his ancestors. He was a medical doctor within the Killeen dispensary area and he lived in Ross House, County Meath, Ireland around 1845. It is unclear when he was born, possibly 1804, but he died at Ross House 7 July 1863. Irish Records Index 1500-1920 shows Henry Bevan WEBB (MD) in 1864 at Tara, Meath. He appears on the register of the Royal College of Surgeons in London in 1861. His address is listed at Ross House as above but he appeared to live in Vauxhall whilst he was training. It is believed he was the son of Robert WEBB (1773 – 1834) and Mary Anne WILSON-SLATOR (b1783) a descendent of the SLATOR family of Belville House co Meath and White Hill co Longford.
Family history suggests that he may have been a descendant of Noah WEBB, Dean of Dunshaughlin and Rathregan, Co. Meath, Ireland. I believe Noah was born abt 1645 in Coate Cottage at Draycott, Wiltshire, England and died in 1698 and is buried in Dunshaughlin C of I cemetery in Meath . He was the son of Daniel WEBB. He married wife Deborah from Co. Down, Ireland and they had 6 children including twin girls. One of their sons was named Henry. I believe Henry was living in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, in May 1711. I am yet to find the connection between the 1600’s and the 1800’s.
Henry Bevan WEBB was married to Maria Eliza ANDREWS in Co. Meath in 1837 and they had 9 children Henry Bevan , Robert Andrews, Thomas Wilson, William Slator, John Bevan, Maria Eliza, Henrietta, Mary Anne and my Great Grandfather George Slator (born approximately 1845). Their stories are as follows.......
Their son Henry Bevan WEBB (1838 – 25 April 1862) Died of Malignant dysentery in Ceylon enroute to Australia aged 24 yrs.
Robert Andrews WEBB (?1839- 1892 ) married Mary Elizabeth BOND (she was a sister of his brother William Slator Webb’s wife), Dublin 19 March 1863. He died in 1892 in Nenagh, Tipperary, Ireland. He trained as a medical doctor and lived with his father in Ross House practicing with him until he was qualified to be on his own. Then the family moved to Cappagh House, Cappawhite, Co. Tipperary. He had at least 6 children. One named Constance Jane born in Ross House, another daughter named Mary Anne. He had one son called James and another son named Henry Bevan WEBB b about 1869 who died in 1942 in Geelong Australia. Henry married Mary Ann Ryan? Had lots of children born in Geelong.
Thomas Wilson WEBB (1843 - 1898) married to Hester Henrietta LEWIS. Married in Knockmark, Co Meath 22 February 1864. Died 1898 inWaterford, Ireland. Had 6 children.
William Slator WEBB (?1848 – 1924) married Rosabella BOND (sister of Mary Bond), Dublin 27 August 1863. William and Rosabella travelled to Australia and arrived in Queensland 27 Jan 1864 however William died shortly after on 24 May 1864 from dysentery. Rosabella went on to remarry in Australia. John Bevan WEBB (1846 – 1924) migrated to Queensland, Australia 1864 to join his brother George collecting timber around the Gympie area. He married Mary McIntyre Sweeney and raised a large family firstly in the Blake Snake area with George and then he moved the family to Cloncurry, Queensland. Many of the family ended up in Perth.
Maria Eliza WEBB, married in Navan in 1870 to Thomas B GIVENS. She inherited Ross House after her Mother’s death. I have no record of any children.
Henrietta WEBB (1853 – 1898) married Walter RICE and migrated to New Zealand. Had 4 children.
Mary Anne WEBB (1851 - 1923) was a twin however unsure which sibling is her twin. Married Charles Littledale FLINT, 21 April 1875 and had 9 children. Died aged 73 and is buried in Deansgrange Cemetery, Dublin.
George Slator WEBB (1944 – 1927) migrated to Brisbane, Australia on the ship “Cairngorm” 2 July 1863 aged 21 years. Married Mary O’Reilly and had 8 children in the Black Snake area around Kilkivan, Queensland, Australia.
Henry and Eliza’s sons George, William and John and Robert’s son Henry all made their way to Australia. Son Henry Bevan died enroute to Australia. Henrietta moved to New Zealand and we have very few details on what happened to the family in Ireland after that.
Henry’s wife Maria Eliza ANDREWS died 23 March 1892 and left a will that stated that Henry Bevan Slator MONTGOMERY of Lime Hill House, Dulough Co. Dublin was her executor. I believe he was a great nephew of her husband Henry.
The Slator family is connected to the Webb family by the marriage of Robert WEBB to Mary Anne Wilson-Slator around 1800. The family were known locally as Wilson-Slator and were descended from the Slators of Kilcommick, Co. Longford, and the Wilsons of Bruce Hall, Co. Cavan.
I would be very grateful for any information.
kind regards
Philomena Henry (Webb)
