Hi

My ancestor John Robinett and then his son Thomas Robinett were recorded as market gardeners in Yaxley in 1891 and 1901.

I wondered if anyone could shred light on what this employment would entail, ie: what acreage of land would they most likely have owned? (I have a will and it just states land) why would this be different to farmer? what would their community standing be?

Any information would be gartefully received.

Google is your friend. Just put in Market gardener and you'll get many hits, one of the more interesting being http://www.bahs.org.uk/23n1a2.pdf
