O'brien / Robinson - Ashford, Co. Wicklow
« on: Thursday 25 November 10 10:35 GMT (UK) »
Looking for info on Michael OBrien born c 1834-1839 Ashford Co. Wicklow (R.C.). Parents Hugh Obrien and Jane Robinson.
Info comes from Australian marriage and death records. May have come to Australia 1854 with 40th Regiment.
I've always put off the Irish research as too hard. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Full civil registration started in Ireland in 1864, so you will need parish records for earlier details. RC records are available on microfilm in the National Library in Dublin, but I presume due to your location this is not an option at the moment.

see :  Introduction to Irish Records

Some baptism records (no marriages at present) for Co. Wicklow are available on the pay-website of the Irish Family History Foundation - see : http://www.rootsireland.ie/

Unfortunately parish records for Ashford parish only seem to go back to about 1864. It might be worth checking a neighbouring parish with older records to see if baptisms for the Ashford area took place there instead... possibly Wicklow (town).

See map of Co. Wicklow RC parishes at : link (Irish Times)
