Hi Tony,

Thomas Sands was my G G Grandfather! I have recently started to research the family history, and like you I have hit a brick wall at Thomas as the UK record systems have no record of his birth. I would be interested to know if you have made any progress in this regard.
Cheers
Rob Sands

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the message. I now have the Birth certificate for thomas sands my great grandad, and it states his father was thomas sands ( from Quebec ) and his mother was Mary Ann Cairns ( from Ireland ), Thats as far as i can get at the minute, alot  of the canadian stuff is in french so hard to follow. I did find an entry in a 1841 census that a thomas sands was a lodger and states his nationality as a foreigner. May be him, may not be.  I cant find any passenger lists for him coming into the UK or anything else.  Getting a bit fustrating now.....lol

If your an ancestry memeber, then yiou can have alook at my tree on there.

Be nice to keep in touch if you like then we could compare notes etc.

Regards
Tony

Hi tony,

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. I think we are both GG Grandsons of Thomas as Thomas Sands (Junior) was the elder brother of my G Grandfather Edwin, who was born in 1875. Thomas appears to have been born in 1862. I have a transcript from the 1881 Census to confirm.

I also have a copy of Edwins birth cert confirming Thomas (Senior) as father and Mary Ann Sands (nee Kearns?) as mother, but the spelling could be wrong as Mary Ann may not have been able to write as she has made her "mark" on the birth cert. I can send you copies of what I have, but need to do this privately. Do we have to go thru the moderator?

Will have a look at your family tree on the  website.

Cheers for now.

Hi Rob to send a personal message (PM) simply go t the left side of the message for Tony. You will see a little scroll-like icon under his picture. Click on that and it will open a PM box where you can enter into a private communication and / or exchange private e-mail addresses. Good luck.

Hi Rob, I should have included a note that you need to have made 3 posts in order to use PM. I see you've made only 2 so once you've added a 3rd you'll be good to go. Cheers,
