Nicholas Elkins at WESTBOURNE 1719 to 1732
« on: Sunday 28 November 10 10:41 GMT (UK) »
My 5 times Great-grandfather Nicholas Elkins married an Elizabeth Burgess at Portsmouth in 1718.
From 1719 to 1732 seven of their 9 children were born at Westbourne Sussex.
Any background information on Nicholas and Elizabeth during this time or earlier would be much appreciated.
From 1732 until his death in 1739 Nicholas lived at Bramshott Hants where he was known to be an Innkeeper.

Hi, Don`t know if this helps any, but  Allice (sic) Elkins widow was buried in Westbourne 24/1/1707. No indication as to whose widow or her age, unfortunately.
Three of Nicholas & Elizabeth`s children also buried there - John 24/4/1720, Mary 28/1/1723, Ann 24/9/1725.

Many thanks for your reply and interest.
The deaths of the children I knew about but Allice(sic) was new to me.
There was a marriage of John Elkins at Westbourne in 1708 which might be linked to an Allice family.
It is all so distant.  As my friend once said "You would have thought they would have realised we would be along 300 years later and written both more, and clearly"
Regards
Norman

First of all if you go into the Burial records for St Andrews a Nicholas Elkins was buried early November 1684. So it seemed to me that Nicholas 1684 was at end. However your discovery of a John Elkines at Clerkenwell with again Thomas and Alice as parents is so interesting. In the 1684 christening record for Nicholas, Thomas was listed as a Bricklayer. Do you have access to the record?
Isn't it great when a new bit of information arrives after many months.
Thank You
