Verification of Documents William Smart and Margaret Dingwall
« on: Monday 29 November 10 15:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

It seems I am not very good at deciphering the writing on these two documents.

Can anyone help me on the parishes identified in these documents.

I am guessing the parish related to William is Collessie, but I have no idea on Margaret's.

Joe

Hi Joe

Can you give the Parish numbers from the original OPR please.  It would help identify things better.

Family surnames being researched ...
Crawford, Neilson, Lindsay, Reekie, Davidson
Drummond, Laing, Pearson, Tulloch ... will do for starters but there's a whole lot more!

Further to my message above ... ScotlandsPeople have a marriage for them on 30 December 1796 in Collessie, although the records you've attached seem to show 1797  :-\

Can you give the Parish numbers from each of the records and that way you'll get better assistance.

The IGI shows them as Collessie and Falkland :)

First of all thank you all for your assistance.

PrueM,

It seem you, IGI and the Scotland People's site are all in agreement.

Falkland wins the prize. :)

Now the hunt begins for the parents of Margaret.

I did a search on "Colefaieth" and have not came up with anything.

Does anyone know if there is a place or area by this name?

It's not "Colefaieth" - "Collessie" has been written with only one "l" and the first "s" is written in the (now) old-fashioned long style :)
