One branch of the original James Clarke - Bridget Doherty family still lives in the Hawker district (there may be other branches there that I haven't come across). These are the descendants of Ashley's brother, Albert, sometimes listed in records as Albert Edward Clarke.  Historically, they have variously been involved with properties in the Carrieton, Cradock, Pine Grove and Yednalue areas. More info if needed.

Many thanks for your post, Frank.  :D  :D
If it is information about living people, you can always send it to me via the PM system......please don't post it on this thread as it would break Rootschat rules.

Any more information will be welcome. We realised that the families had been involved in the early settlement of those areas, and I had found phone numbers and names that made me wonder if there were relatives still living there.

I've also found some possible contacts for descendants in Western Australia. However, my friend and I decided that we'd put this project on hold in regards to trying to contact anyone until the New Year due to other commitments.

What we'd really like is to find a descendant who is interested in the family history, or who knows one who is interested.

Have you seen the pictures of the old bible on the link in an earlier message?

Frank has very kindly PMed me with the information he has that can't be posted on here, and later today, I'll be sending off an email to a descendant of one of Ashley Clarke's brothers.

I'll let you all know the outcome!

Rootschat comes through again!  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D
