Wrono Punterling of Bodfari

Hi,

Medieval history I am afraid. I am researching a man called Wrono Punterling who lived in Stretton, near Runcorn about 1170.

Wrono seems to be a welsh name and he had connections with Bodfari, possibly also with Rhuddlan and Prestatyn.

I was wondering if his surname, Punterling could be a place in the area but I can't find anything which sounds like like it, though that could be because I'm not familiar with welsh place names.
Does anybody know of any places which might sound anything like Punterling in the Denbighshire area?

It was more the origin of the name Punterling which I was looking for. Assuming that he was welsh I was wondering if it could be along the lines of Pont-y-?.

If I could find out where he came from I was hoping that my Starkeys could have come from the same area since Wrono held Stretton immediately before the Starkeys did.

There is a Pant y Llyn, Llandrillo, Near Corwen which is actually in Merionethshire at the moment but is near the Denbighshire border. There may of course well be other place with similar names.

My farm is

The farm is actually in denbighshire, although the old merioneth boundary runs across the fields just to the west of the farmhouse

I believe the farm to be old but it has been rebuilt several times, but when we stripped the plaster off the living room we found the original roof beams to be only 5 feet 3 inches from the floor

When I photographed the farm from across the valley what stood out was that the fields around the house formed a circle which would be the most economical way of fencing/hedging off a stretch of virgin land  - so I do beleive this is an old site.

The path across the berwyn mountains is believed to be one of the oldest tracks in the UK (heresay evidence) and part of that runs immediatley behind the house.

So I think you may be right about the house...

Thanks for that. Mind you don't bang your head It would be interesting to know if the place (or the farm) existed in the 12th century.

For anybody who is interested there seems to have been a knight called Sir Robert Pounderling (c 1180) who was constable of Dyserth castle.His effigy is in Tremeirchon church.
He seems to have been Welsh but with some possible Norman ancestry.
