1729 Burial help needed
« on: Friday 03 December 10 05:39 GMT (UK) »
I am studying the name TUCHIN and variants and have a Thomas Tuchin burial at Stepney 1729 at this link;
http://search.ancestry.com.au/iexec?htx=View&r=5544&dbid=1624&iid=31280_194775-00576&fn=Thomas&ln=Tuchin&st=r&ssrc=&pid=493666
What I dont understand is written after his name ... looks like Nage or Wage?
But I am not alone as this page of burials has the same word on other entries.
Any out there know?

I think it's actually "Wap" and my guess is that it stands for "Wapping" - other abbreviations on the page also seem to be for place names as they are in the form of "John Smith of xxx yyy" (where xxx is the place and yyy is the occupation).

Cheers

Hi

I agree with "Wap"=Wapping especially as Wapping is "local" to St Dunstan Stepney.

"Pen" = Pensioner?

Ray

ps It's not a major problem but if you post a link to the .AU domain of A.....y.com, you restrict the (majority) direct access to the doc view to A....y members in Australia.
