searching for Eliza Campbell
« on: Friday 03 December 10 11:50 GMT (UK) »
I have been unable to trace my gt gt grandmother Eliza Campbell after 1906 at 16 Colvin Ave,East Ham. Her mother ,Frances Anderson, died 1905 at that address & according to Electoral info Eliza is there up to 1906. I have looked for deaths ( 1929 in 3 record offices West Ham  & the BMD entry for Eliza age 80yrs wasn't her ) There is one in West Ham for the same year but the age of 77yrs doesn't fit.
There are some marriages for that name but it would be a wild guess if any were of her. Her son entered an Essex Asylum in 1906 & I wonder if there is a connection. Can anyone suggest my next move please.

Hello, She was born 1848 in Limehouse. Yes I have tried the 1911 census.
She also had a son James William Campbell born 1868, & think it could be him in Beckton County, London, & wonder if by tracing his wherabouts , or entry into the Navy, I might get details of his mother, but there again how do I go about this ?

Thankyou for your reply. Her sons were Hubert James Campbell 1866-1937, I have his details ;& James William Campbell 1868, only have him on 1881 census with his mother ,brother & Anderson Grandparents in Swale St Poplar.
There's a possibility of James being on 1911 census at Beckton County Woolwich as 3rd Officer on "Barron ", but not sure how to follow this through. Re the ship etc.

I dont have access to any records offices...but Ive been searching online and havent been able to find anything..
I have Eliza in the 81, 91, and 01 records but not in the 1911 either...

re. james and his being on the ship..
if you havent already, have a look on http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
there is a few records that could possibly be him, but theres no way of telling for sure...at least until you pay and look at them yourself.
eg. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?queryType=1&resultcount=1&Edoc_Id=8002123

another option is that in the 1911 census it says James is married. If you find his wife, that could also lead to Eliza.

Thankyou Sienna071
I hadn't thought of the NA, so will take a look.
As to James' wife I will have to look further as being quite a common name there are a few marriages to choose from. That is why I need more 1911 info other than what is showing. If I knew his wife's name I could then look for her.

 Hi     Sienna 071

That NA reference is not my James William Campbell. The ref 6/4/1900 related to date of birth.
At least now I know. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'll have to keep looking.
Happt Christmas
