GURNEY Family
« on: Monday 06 December 10 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My name is Kati and I live in the US. I am looking for information on George William Gurney and his parents and siblings. He was born 3 March 1818-1819 in Hemel Hempstead (I believe). His father was William Gurney. George Gurney worked as a butler in Middlesex in 1851 and married 1. Jane Hibbs and 2. Frances S. Hibbs both of Dorset.

Thank you for your help!
-Kati

Hi
I have found a William Gurney born 3rd March 1818 in Hemel Hemstead.
Father William, mother Elizabeth. Baptised at the Baptist Chapel, Hemel Hemstead  21st June 1819

RG4 / Piece 663 / Folio 14

Unfortunately I can't see any siblings with those parents .. I hope this helps?

As far as I can tell, George married Jane Hibbs, she died and he met her sister and then married her. I don't know if that was a common practice.... It's so frustrating! Neither he nor Fanny are listed on the 1851 census (in Hall Place or anywhere)... Do you have any ideas of where I could look for information on George online? I know a bit more about the Hibbs, so they're not my main focus at the moment. Thank you for your help!

Hi

From your initial posting you mentioned "1841 and 1851" so I presumed you had 1851 census. Your last posting says that you haven't got 1851.

Here is what I found for George Gurney (b1818/9 Hemel Hempstead)
1851 HO107 1697 460 8, Northolt(Middlesex) District 2 Page 8
32y, b H.Hempstead, man servant for Rector of Northolt Edward Murray

(pm me with your email address if you want copy)

Regards
Ray
