John King of Navistock
« on: Thursday 09 December 10 20:38 GMT (UK) »
Would like to try and establish the baptism entry of John King believed to have been born in the 4th Qtr of 1843 in the Ongar Registration District.

I think his parents are James & Rachel King maiden name unknown who married probably in Essex circa 1833.

The lightlyhood is that James King was baptised circa 1812, location unknown.

John King would later move to Caldey Island off the coast of Pembrokeshire and marry the island school teacher Sarah Oriel, and then move again up the valleys to Dowlais working in the Iron Works.

Navestock
James King 39 Ag lab bn High Roothing
Rachell 39 wife bn Grt Dunmow
Eliza 4
George 9
John 7    all children bn Kelvedon hatch

Is this the family?

If so young John was born Kelvedon Hatch, not Navestock.
And  dad James was born Hogh Roothing.

It seems that you have traced the family in later years - is James consistant with this birthplace?

This must be the family, many thanks for that. The only clue was John's mention of Navestock as his birth place.
Would "Navestock" be acceptable as a Generic for Kelvedon Hatch etc, much like Haverfordwest appears to be used by many that left the county and gave the easist remembered location of the county of their birth ??

In 1861 John and his family are living in Navestock, Essex - his birthplace given as Kelvedon Hatch.    Perhaps he just thought he was born in Navestock too.
