Hi Guys

I'm researching my Sloan side of the family! Do any of you have the surname on your tree?

I'm trying to trace the parents of Edward Sloan c1870 at Broghshane,Ireland. He married twice, first of all to a a lady called Mary ?? and his second wife was Martha Quigley c1888. He had two children that i know of, Edward Sloan who died at 8 days old & Robert Sloan who was born in 1926 in Larne Northen Ireland. Robert later Married an Agnes McKee.

Any Help will be greatfully appreciated.

Garry

I've removed your email address in accordance with Rootschat policy and please remember that we are also not allowed to post details of living people.

Have you found Edward in 1901 and 1911 census records yet? Both are online (free) as is civil registration index. The marriage certificates should list his father's name and occupation.

This looks like Edward and wife Mary in 1901 census living in Larne- oldest child is Mary A. aged 5 years so that might help find date of marriage.

By 1911 census Edward is married to Martha but in-laws are Nathaniel and Martha Young- if wife Martha's maiden name was Quigley perhaps these are 1st wife's parents-

Two possible marriages - in both cases the father's name is probably Robert:
Edward Sloan m.1894 Co.Antrim to Mary ?
Edward Sloan m.1910 Co.Antrim to Martha ?

If these details are correct (and remember this is just speculation until you get father's name from marriage certificate) there's a possible birth in IGI (www.familysearch.org)-
Edward SLOAN born 2 Sept.1870 Co.Antrim- parents Robert Sloan and Mary Ann Fisher.

Hi,
I can confirm the birth of Edward Sloan. He was registered in Ballymena district which includes Broughshane, 2 Sept 1870.
I also found a marriage of Edward Sloan, father Robert, to Mary Young in Glenarm Non-subscribing Presbyterian Church. Larne, on 30 Oct 1894
How sure are you of the name Quigley? I cannot find a Sloan/Quigley marriage. However there is an Edward Sloan, father Robert, who married Martha Tweedle in 1910 in Ballymena.

Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

According to earlier post there was a son Robert born 1926- if the date is correct then perhaps his mother was not Martha or Edward had 3 marriages and 2 of the wives name Martha  ???
