Help with a female name please, 1841
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 10:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Can anyone help me decipher this female name from the 1841 Census (in Leicester) please?
I'd me most grateful.

I've included some of the surrounding names in the same hand.

Could the name be Emma?

Thanks for looking!

Hi transparu,

My first guess would be Emma as well.

Emma would have been my first guess but the first letter doesn't look like the E of Elizabeth a couple of lines down.

It looks as if it could be an A. Where are they? Could a regional accent have made Emma sound like Amma?

In 1851, she's quite clearly Emma, HO107/2089 504 20

Thanks everyone . . other Census records make it clear that it IS Emma - though it IS a rather strange E!
