CAMDEX marriage codes

Does anyone know if a list exists for the marriage codes i.e. C1 = St Mary's, Cam etc

Hi Jay,

I was hoping you would get a reply saying that someone had such list!

Anyway I decided to email Cambridgeshire Archives as ask if they could supply one.  The answer was that they were sorry but they couldn't, however people are welcome to 'phone them with queries.

At one time I did start to compile a list by matching my own records of events in known parishes to the Camdex code, so maybe I will give that another go.

Does seem very strange for an office as advanced as Cambridge to lack such a code. Perhaps those of use interested in Cambs should help Selina with a compilation?

Hi Roger,

I already knew that they would tell you the parish is you 'phoned them as a relative had done so on a couple of occasions, but if you have a big Cambridge family you don't want to be doing that many times!

It would seem such a simple list for them to compile but perhaps it would stop the sale of a few certificates if people just consulted the parish registers.

When I get time I will dig out the list I started.  Perhaps it would be useful on Cambridge Resources, I can't see that Cambs Archives could object.

I had thought about emailing them but as I couldn't see anything online I assumed they wouldn't be forthcoming in providing one!

Since I posted this I did manage to find out the codes for the marriages I was interested in & got transcriptions of them from the Cambridge Collection.  I don't have the details handy but can send you them to add to the list if you do compile one.
