Hasketon PR look-up - BOYN(E)S (Completed)
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 23:02 GMT (UK) »
William Tunmer Boyns was born on baptized in Hasketon on 19 February 1837, the son of Robert and Mary Boyns. He doesn't appear on the 1841 census, or thereafter that I'm aware, so I'm assuming he died between 1837-1841. Would this death/burial appear in the Hasketon parish records, and if so, would sks please kindly look up the details?

Thanks for any help,
Janet

I have found the following but not the son of Robert & Mary Boyns but given that the names & location are right I wondered if it might be of interest?

William BOYNES buried 4 Dec 1876 Woodbridge Cemetery age 44.  Abode Woodbridge.  Died 28 Nov Dryford Hill, Milk Seller.

1871C - William BOYNES residing Turks Head Inn, Hasketon, Wife Martha & family.  Born Hasketon.

1861C - William BENES residing the Cottage, Hasketon, wife Martha.

1851C - William TUNMER residing Turks Head Inn with parents - William & Hannah

1841C  - William TIMMER residing Drybridge Hill, Woodbridge with parents - William & Hannah.

His father William TUNMER (Woodbridge)  married Hannah BINES (Hasketon) 21 Oct 1833 Hasketon.

ps.  The Suffolk Burial Index lists the burials of several infants in CLOPTON, not far from Hasketon.

Robert BOYNS 9 Oct 1810 infant son of  Robert & Mary BOYNS late Orsborn
Mary BOYNS 13 Jan 1812 da of Robert & Mary BOYNS late Orsborn
Sarah BOYNS 28 Oct 1808 da of Robert & Mary late Orsborn
Susan BOYNS 4 Dec 1805 inf da of Robert & Mary BOYNS

There are 3 more infant burials in CLOPTON in the name of BOYNS between 1816 & 1818 all Robert's but parents are not identified.  No Williams other than the one in my previous reply.

William TUNMER buried Hasketon 5 Jun 1879 age 66
Hannah TUNMER buried Hasketon 11 Oct 1874 age 62

Hi Janet
NBI 3rd edition includes records for Hasketon 1538-1900. There is no burial there for William Tunmer Boyns. The only Boynes/Boyns buried there was a Hannah Boynes age 56 buried there on 8th Nov 1839.

The cencus info shown here that William Tunmer Boyns/Boynes/Bines appears to be called Timmer/Tunmer on the 1841/1851 and changes to Boynes after he married is the same info I have gathered.
The person William Timmer/Tunmer  is 9 on the 1841 and 18 on 1851
This matches ther person Boynes aged 28 on 1861 and 38 on 1871
Quite 'why' he is shown as christened in 1837 as a son of Robert  and Mary  Nee Lankester  BOYNS is a mystery
because it is Roberts Boyns sister Hannah that married William Tunmer  21.10.1833  (as Hannah Bines)
It would appear he was a child of Hannah Boyns/Boynes  (sometimes seen as Bines)  before she married William Tunmer.
William certainly referred to William Tunmer Market gardener as being his father when he married Martha Diggins 8.11.1860 at Haskeston.   Here he is referred to as 'Bines' NOT Boyns/Boynes but he could not write.
The other children of William and Hannah Nee Bines/Boynes TUNMER seem to be christened at St Marys Woodbridge 1834-1849  making it EVEN more mysterious that the son living with them and naming William Tunmer on marriage in 1860 was christened in 1837 at Hakeston as per igi  as the son of her brother Robert and his wife Mary - very strange indeed.

A mystery as you say. Perhaps Robert and Mary were going to adopt William, then his parents got married and he lived with them, but maybe had a fall-out with his father at a later date, or reverted to his mother's name for some other reason. They like to keep us guessing!  ;)

Yes that might be the solution  - Robert had a few children and 3 wives so why not 'another' child.
I read the other day that wife Number 2 for Robert ie Sarah Miller drowned herself after she had  a little bit too much to drink and Robert had casually said " This won't do" shortly after they were married!    They were different times for sure.
