Occupation - Freed Floor Shopkeeper
« on: Monday 13 December 10 20:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
Could anyone enlighten me as to the occupation of a
Freed Floor Shopkeeper.   I have just come across the term on a 1901
 census schedule.

 Cheers  Eddie.   :-\

Hi Eddie

If you give us some more information, such as a name, age, pob and place found in the 1901 then we can have a look at the image.

Or if you're up to it, try posting part of the census image (not the whole page as that would breach copyright, but a section) so that those that don't have access to the images but are good at reading old-fashioned script can have a go too.

Hi Maryam,
I may have solved my query.  It appears this family ran a
Coffee House and Bakery Confectioners store in a near by property.

Thank you for your help.

All the best.  Eddie. :)

Hi,   Sorry for the delay in replying my computer keeps throwing a tizzy. >:(

Question Freed Floor Shopkeeper??

In this case all it means, family have Freed Up the ground floor rooms of a dwelling house to use as a shop.  This family have two adjoining dwelling houses.  One for living in the other one the ground floor is being used for a coffee house cum confectionery shop.  Whilst the upper floor rooms are let to boarders.

Eddie.

Hi Eddie  :)

Sorry, but I don't think it says Freed Floor.

I think the occupation is 'Fried Fish Shopkeeper'.

Jennifer  :D

I agree. Freed Floor Shopkeeper sounds very unlikely. How did you find the census entry Jennifer, and what is the reference?
