I have included all the information that was there and added a few more resources for County Tyrone but if anyone can supply new links that will help other Rootschatters please let me know either by PM or on a new post (a link as well as an explanation as to contents please). The contents of your topic will then be edited into to the relevant category topic and your original posting will be deleted.  (This may result in you receiving a "deleted" notification e-mail but will keep this thread tidy and easy to use)

1821- Aghaloo (some) (Thrift Abstracts, National Archives)
1831-1891- none (although see Old Age Pension Claims below).
1901- complete for all Ireland. Microfilm copies can be found at PRONI and LDS libraries (either in stock or to order). Eventually to be added to National Archives, Dublin website (see below)

Old Age Pension Claims: the introduction of old age pension (min. age 70) c1909 meant 1841 and 1851 census returns were checked as claimants were born before civil registration of births started in 1864. Extracts from these census searches are in the pension claim files (PRONI).
It is sometimes worth checking for people slightly younger than pension age (surprising how many people weren't as old as they said!) or older siblings whose details can fill in family details such as names of parents and year of marriage, townland, etc.

There are several different systems of land measurement in place in Ireland at various times.
Statute acre (or English acre) = 4840 square yards
Cunningham acre = 6250 square yards
A Scottish measurement. Cunningham acres need to be multiplied by 1.29 to convert them to English, statute acres.

This may explain the differences in the acreage of a farm which seems to have changed in size.

Places

The Northern Ireland Valuation and Lands Agency gives the names of the District Councils throughout the Province, the names of the Wards in each Council and the names of roads and streets within those Wards. 

Omagh
Omagh's Historic Walk includes details of churches, banks, and other points of interest in the town.Loreto Grammar School founded 1855 when Father O'Kane, Parish Priest of Omagh, asked Mother Teresa Ball for a community. Mother Felicitas Murray was appointed as Superior and she travelled up by stagecoach with five sisters. That must have been prior to the railway reaching the town.

Sion Mills
Herdman's Mill was founded in in the village of Sion Mills in 1835. It was established by the Herdman brothers in partnership with members of the Mulholland family.  The Civil Survey of 1640 mentions a mill in this area. James Herdman lived at Carricklee House which is still standing and is a country house B & B. In the early 1900s there were race meetings at Carricklee which were recorded by Herbert Cooper who had a photography business in Strabane.
Sion Mills, at the end of the nineteenth century, had two hundred mill workers' houses and Sion House which belonged to a member of the Herdman family. In the 1960s the workers were able to purchase their houses. Herdman's Mill was one of the properties entered in the BBC Restoration programme a couple of years ago. The website of the Sion Mills Buildings Preservation Trust has articles about the Herdman family, the History of the Mills and also has a Forum where people can share memories of working in Herdmans Mill or other similar mills.

The Alexander Family (Earls of Caledon)
James Alexander - 1st Earl of Caledon (1730 - 22 March 1802) - who had made his fortune with the East India Company purchased the Caledon Estate from Edmund Boyle, who was the seventh Earl of Cork, for £94,400 in 1776. Field Marshal Harold Alexander, the 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis, was the third son of the fourth Earl.
The Public Records Office in Belfast holds The Caledon Papers which amount in total to approximately six hundred volumes and  roughly 17,550 documents covering the period 1639 to 1951.
