Help needed to find a marriage, the bride keeps changing her first name
« on: Saturday 18 December 10 22:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Emma Reader born 1848 in Netherbury, Dorset is the daughter of William Reader and Hannah/Mary/Dinah/Diana

I'm trying to locate William Readers marriage.  I have found William before he marries but his wife is proving elusive.

1851 William, HANNAH, son George and Emma are living in Netherbury
 HO107; Piece: 1860; Folio: 311; Page: 29

1861 William, MARY, George and Emma living  Winterbourne, Dorset
Class: RG9; Piece: 1331; Folio: 84; Page: 28

1871 William and MARY living Bladnford St Mary
RG10; Piece: 1978; Folio: 105; Page: 6

1881 William and DIANA living Blandford with Emma and her husband John Burt.
Class: RG11; Piece: 2088; Folio: 115; Page: 3

1891 DIANA still living with Emma and her husband
RG12; Piece: 1634; Folio 116; Page 3

1891 death registered as DINAH Reader

I cannot find a marriage for a William Reader that will fit in. Although there is a marriage 1844 Blandford of a William REDDER and Diana Pattison.

I have tried looking for Diana Pattison  on the 1841 census but no luck.  It appears she may be born St Gabriels, Whitchurch.  Help and advice please.

Thanks
Joan

Have you sent for Emma's birth certifictae? This should have her mother's full name on it.

A possible birth reg:

Dec 1848 Beaminster 8/11
Emma Reader

Hi Jen

No, not yet.  Was hoping to find and order their marriage certificate.  Even if I order Emma's birth certificate, I may still not find her mother on the 1841.  At least if I order their marriage certificate I can confirm I have the right family for William and it will hopefully at least give me Mary/Hannah/Dinah/Diana's father's name and where she was living three year's after the 1841.

Found a Diana Patterson - transcribed as (and indeed looks like) Dianna Paterson 20 - working as a servant to a family named Legg in Loders, Dorset.

Hi Annette

Thank you, I'll certainly look into her further, but I think this is her.  Wonder why she kept changing her name ???

Have you considered that these may not be the same wives?  For example there is a death of a Hannah Reader Q1 1858 in Beaminster Registration District.

Hi behind the frogs

I had considered that originally, but there is no marriage of a William Reader to a Mary that would fit, if he remarried after Hannah.  There is also no Mary Reader dying before 1881 that would fit and there is no William Reader marrying a Diana after 1871.

They are all the same age and are born in the same place.  There are Hannah Reader's born in Dorset that die in Dorset and I think this 1858 death is one of those.
