Wood,Winterbottom and Wyatt of Derbyshire
« on: Sunday 19 December 10 00:26 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my Wyatt family of Glossop.
It would seem that there are family connections to both Wood and Winterbottom but exact relationships escape me.
I have found a family of John Wood 55,wife Hannah 49 and children George 18,Samuel 14,Joseph 12 and Betty 10 living at Howard Town in 1841 ( ? rounding of ages).
I cannot find them in 1851 but I think it is the same family in 1861 at Cross St.
John Wood is aged 75,his wife Hannah is gone,George is 37 and daughter Betty 30 looks to have married William Heap 29 and they have children John Heap 7 and Samuel Heap 5.

I cannot be sure but I think John married Hannah Walker 2 Mar 1818 Glossop.
Assuming John was bC1786,I think he may have been a son of George Wood of Whitfield and Hobroad who married Nancy Winterbottom.
The winterbottoms lived at Blackshaw farm Glossop where I have found my Wyatts during the 1800s.

I am hoping someone with knowledge of the Wood and Winterbottom families might be able to help me resolve a number of queries.

Thank you keyboard86
I would appreciate appreciate full details of the 1851 census as I cannot access.
I think there was a George 43 boarding with them in 1861,most likely a relative although census says "another family"
The father of John is likely to be a George.
I think they may all have come from Whitfield which I understand is adjacent to Glossop.
Do you happen to have 1871.Both John and Hannah probably dead by them.

A Samuel Winterbottom + my Hannah Wyatt from Whitfield 7 May 1816.

George Winterbottom died 22 April 1835 and was a Farmer  living at Blackshaw Farm... theWinterbottom  family later lived at Windy Harbour which I think is near Blackshaw Farm
Nancy was christened 19 6 1760 and married George Wood on 10 June 1784 at Glossop Parish Church
The John you mention was christened 11 2 1787 his sister Mary 1 2 1790 and brother George 13 11 1792

Thank you very much selwynfroggitt.
I am very interested in Blackshaw farm as my Wyatts were there for at least the 1800s and there is a definite connection to Wood,Winterbottom and Garlick families through marriage.
Your contribution is most helpful. It is a matter of resolving where the respective families fit in.
