Don't know if this helps anyone but i have found a

James Byrne born c.1858 from Ireland working as a servant with my Jones family in Wales on the 1871 census.

The Byrne surname appeared in most Irish counties at the time of Griffith's Valuation of Ireland (1848-64). Irish Ancestors Surname Search shows there were 6434 families with this name at the time of the Valuation. Large numbers of Byrnes appeared in the following counties ...
