Suttie & Ogilvy Families , Dundee
« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 19:18 GMT (UK) »
A lady who works in the copy shop where I get a lot of my history printed is very admiring of my own family history knowledge and has asked me to take a look at her history to date.
Her earliest ancestor is James Suttie (born in 1816 in Dundee) and who married Isabella Ogilvy, (born 1820 in Dundee) - they married in 1842 in Dundee.
I know the Ogilvy name is usually a good one and hope there is more to know about these people, even occupations, children, addresses - and hey, is there a castle somewhere she could admire - we are in New Zealand and Scottish ancestral castles are very much something to drool over!

Thanks - I am just going to absorb it all - a further bit of info. is that their son was John Ogilvy Fairlie Suttie who was born about 1854 and married Mary Fraser about 1874
That is a fairly grand sort of name and I wonder if it helps the cause

Have just clicked on the link and there is John Ogilvy Fairlie Suttie featured. I do wonder about his name of Fairlie - maybe it was his mother's mother's surname.
Thanks

is there a castle somewhere she could admire - we are in New Zealand and Scottish ancestral castles are very much something to drool over!

There's Airlie Castle - see map at http://www.geograph.org.uk/browse.php?p=677165 though the castle itself is hidden in the trees
and
Cortachy Castle http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1094736

but don't let your colleague get carried away with the idea that she's a direct descendant ;-)
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
