Death in a fire 1910
« on: Wednesday 29 December 10 21:39 GMT (UK) »
A family member told me of a fire in Hull in 1910 in which my
great Aunt and her daughter died.  There names were Eliza and May Smith,
any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks Lynne

Hi

There is not enough information to help with your query

What address were they living at and exactly when in 1910 did it happen?

Have you checked freebmd for their deaths?   www.freebmd.org.uk

Do you have a copy of their death certs with the exact date of death?

If you are asking for information about any newspaper or inquest report - you would have to narrow down any search by providing at least the date they died

There is no May Smith death in1910 in Hull on freebmd

Was this fire in a caravan rather than a house?

I was told it was a house fire, but i can see more background is
needed and i am not certain now where to get the background information.
i know Eliza's husband Joseph and four children were left.

If they died in Hull - any death would have been recorded in the Hull registration district and there is no May or Eliza Smith death in 1910 on freebmd

Have you checked the 1911 census for the family?  If Eliza and May are missing - you will know for certain they died before that census and Joseph should be shown as a widower

Eliza and May are said to have died together so there should be a corresponding death for May in the same quarter - but there isn't

The 1901 census has an Eliza Smith aged 47 - widow - living in Sculcoates
